New cancer awareness campaign appeals to America’s youth
Young rising music stars want their peers to know they can help build a world without cancer.
Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York has developed YRoswell, a campaign aimed at Generation Y to encourage them to help build a world without cancer.
Jason Derulo, Kris Allen, Sean Kingston, along with members of Hey Monday and Cobra Starship are on board. They teamed up with young cancer patients to appear in a YRoswell educational campaign called How Big Is Your Heart? The stars ask Gen-Y fans to imagine a world without cancer and to help make it happen.
“Personally for me I’ve lost some friends to cancer,” says Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship. “I think it is very important, especially for anyone who is in a position who has a lot of attention from the public, to donate some of that attention to this. This is a charity that no one can say no to, and to help out it takes a little bit of time, a little bit of money, we always have fun, but it is important to do more than just have fun.”
The young cancer survivors were thrilled to meet and get autographs from their music idols, and for a moment, forget their fight for life.
“When you are here, and don’t have time to think, ‘Oh I’m a sick kid’. You’re here and like, ‘Oh my god— it’s Jason Derulo’ and you’re meeting new people, and it is very cool,” says cancer patient Meghan Redenbach
YRoswell encourages all young people everywhere to get into the fight and help build a world without cancer any way possible whether it’s volunteering, fundraising, lending an understanding ear or gentle touch, or choosing a career in medicine or science.
