Sunday morning, Kris Allen and his dad Neil stopped by Heifer International’s headquarters in Little Rock, AR, for a quiet visit with a couple of staff members. We gave him the large card (12″ X 18″) full of the well-wishes of generous fans who gave to Heifer in honor of Kris’s birthday.

Kris examined the card thoroughly, perusing the names inside. After a few minutes, he turned it over and in surprise said, “Woah. There are names on the back, too!” Yep, nearly 500 in all, I confirmed. And donations to the tune of over $26,000. The fans have spoken!

After nine seasons at the judges’ table, Simon Cowell said goodbye to American Idol on Tuesday’s finale. His snarky critiques and cheeky British candor captured the attention of millions of fans — and detractors — who tuned in each week not only to see dreams come true, but also to see Cowell crush them. TVGuide.com caught up with several Idol alums on the red carpet at the Season 9 finale as they shared their goodbyes to Cowell:

“Have fun on X-Factor. He wasn’t super-nice to me, but he said some nice things. We don’t get too much advice from him. I hate it because I wish I could’ve been like, ‘Hey Simon, what can you tell me?’” —Kris Allen, Season 8 winner

Listen up, all you heartbroken souls! Just because you broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend doesn’t mean you won’t someday get back together. And get married. And see your spouse go on to win “American Idol.”

That’s the takeaway from Kris Allen’s romance with his high school sweetheart, as the singer explains in the upcoming episode of “When I Was 17,” airing Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. “When I was 17, I broke up with my future wife,” he admitted.

Arkansas native Allen and future wife Katy had been dating for about a year when their final year of high school rolled around and Kris decided he needed space to rock out like a true senior.
