Maintaining the outside of your home is just as important as taking care of the inside. Wear and tear that happens to it can find its way to the interior and create bigger issues. Here are a few ways to take care of this area of your house to prevent additional problems.
Inspect the Gutters
Keeping the copper gutters shoreline of your home clear of leaves, sticks, and dirt is vital for the health of your home. If they become clogged, the water that accumulates in them can back up and damage your roof as well as your interior walls. You should complete this task every spring and fall to ensure that they are clear. Use a ladder to climb up to them then, with a pair of quality gloves, pull free what you find inside. Dispose of the rubbish in either your compost pile or the garbage.
Cleaning the Exterior
The seasons can take a toll on your home and leave it covered in grime and dirt. This can detract from the curb appeal of the property. Purchase or rent a pressure washer and the correct detergents for the surface that you are scrubbing. Take care when you are spraying your siding or deck to ensure that the force is strong enough to remove the filth yet keeps everything intact. Do this a couple times a year for a beautiful, clean exterior of your house.
Maintain Your Lawn
Along with your home, the first thing that visitors will see is your lawn and shrubbery. If these grow wild, they will make your house seem less than appealing to passerbys. Keep your grass cut and at an even level every week. If you are experiencing more sunny days than rain, water it as much as you are able. Trim back bushes and trees and keep wayward branches cut back. These can poke holes in your roof or siding if they are out of control, which will cause further issues to the structure.
