Having an excellent design that you love in your bedroom is important. Granted, you might not spend much time in your bedroom, but having surroundings that make you feel comfortable and cozy mean that you’re far likelier to have a relaxing nights’ rest and awaken recharged and ready to meet your objectives the next day.
Popular Bedroom Themes
While traditional design trends such as ‘contemporary’ or ‘minimalist’ often influence the décor of our bedrooms, more people are moving towards bringing much more specific ideas into how they decorate their own.
As a result, we’re starting to see themes attributed to a particular country, or lifestyle, rather than an adjective lifted from the latest glossy magazine. What are the popular bedroom themes that are making a splash in design circles? Do you consider these ideas ones that you might have in our own bedroom, or would you prefer to stick to something else?
Remember that bedroom designs can be unique within your home, or follow a theme that runs throughout all of your other rooms.
African Bedroom Designs
You can go two ways with African bedroom designs.
– Implement tribal influences, such as patterns, paintings, tribal masks, and sculptures.
– Focus on the wildlife aspect of Africa, and use animal prints as well as decorative ornaments, pictures and paintings.
Both can make your room look great; here are some pointers on how to achieve each look.
Tribal Designs
This is the most simple and easy to achieve of the two. Use a neutral color as your base, as well as for carpets, bedding, and curtains, and then look to implement tribal inspirations wherever you can. The trick here is not to overdo it. Try to stick to a handful of colors; blues, deep reds, and browns work brilliantly together, and will stand out against most neutral bases.
All you need to do then is bring together your paintings, tribal masks, and as many other features as you can, without making the room look too cluttered.
Wildlife Inspirations
The challenge when you use African wildlife as your inspiration is making sure you don’t create pattern clashes everywhere you look. Yes, zebra and leopard prints might be exciting, but probably don’t work too well together. At the same time, you want to avoid being dull and just having paintings of elephants everywhere.
One excellent addition to any African bedroom is the large wooden ornaments that are widely available in home stores and in zoo gift shops. The only rule with these is to look for quality in the workmanship; avoid paying over the odds to buy something from someone looking to capitalize on the popularity of these products.
Japanese Bedroom Designs
We’ll stay with the geographical theme and move east to Japan. The centerpiece of any Japanese bedroom design is always the bed, which to the untrained eye resembles little more than a mattress laid on the floor.
Japanese bedroom design use a lot of wood materials
However, there are several ways you can further add to the surroundings of the room and keep the Japanese/Oriental inspired theme. Go for paper lanterns, oriental prints on the walls, and laminated wood or tile flooring to finish off the look perfectly.
If you’re thinking of a whole house renovation, then you might even consider installing shoji screens.
Rustic Bedroom Designs
It is time to look at a more general theme now. Rustic and country-inspired kitchens have been popular for years now, and these ideas are starting to spread across the home.
While stripping back the walls and ceiling to expose wooden beams might be beyond your means or not cater to your tastes, you can still make the most of natural wood throughout the bedroom. For the most authentic look, try to pick up some reclaimed wood and build your own bed or other furniture.
Go for wooden floors with a huge rug, and if you live in an old house with a bedroom fireplace, either restore it or look to use a wood burner within it.
